Walmart Offers Discounts Ahead of iPhone 5C Pre-Orders

Walmart Offers Discounts Ahead of iPhone 5C Pre-Orders

Pre-orders for the colorful iPhone 5C begin early tomorrow morning through several major U.S. carriers, though Walmart is also offering a bit of a discount on the new smartphone.

Sprint announced on its website that pre-orders for the iPhone 5C will begin at 2 a.m. Central, or 3 a.m. Eastern, and midnight Pacific. Verizon, ATT, and T-Mobile have also announced that they will begin pre-orders for the 5C on Sept. 13, presumably at the same time, and the phone will also be sold on Apple.com.

The 16GB iPhone 5C will be $99, while the 32GB will run you $199, both with a two-year contract. Unlocked versions via T-Mobile will be $549 and $649, respectively.

The higher-end iPhone 5S will not be available for pre-order. Customers will instead have to wait until Sept. 20 to order the new phone or brave the lines at Apple and carrier stores around the country.

The new smartphones will also be available from big box retailers like Walmart, which announced that it will sell the 16GB iPhone 5C, in all five colors, for $79 with a two-year contract, a $20 discount. Walmart will start accepting in-store pre-orders on Sept. 13 at the customer service desk. You can then pick it up on Sept. 20 or wait until Sept. 21 to trade in an old smartphone for a further discount through Walmart's new program. Pre-orders must be picked up by Sept. 25, Walmart said.

The 16GB iPhone 5S, meanwhile, will also be in Walmart stores on Sept. 20 with a $10 discount for the 16GB at $189.

Though Apple is replacing the iPhone 5 with the 5C, Walmart is now selling its existing inventory of iPhone 5 devices for $79, down from $98, with a two-year contract. The iPhone 4S, meanwhile, is now $0.97, while the iPhone 4 will be $0.10 and come with a $100 Walmart gift card, starting Sept. 16.

Starting tomorrow, meanwhile, those who purchase an unlocked, pre-paid iPhone via Walmart's Straight Talk can get the iPhone 5 for $549 and the iPhone 4 for $349, a $100 discount on both.
