SEATTLE -- The LulzSec pranskster hacktivists appear to be active this morning, claiming credit for hacking Burger King's Twitter account and making a mockery of it.
Someone swapped out the corporate image associated with @Burgerking / Twitter, and replaced it with McDonalds' golden arches. The Burger King account listed 85,048 followers. The hackers also changed the name of @BurgerKing to McDonalds at a little after noon Eastern Time.
Subsequent Tweets from the compromised account mentioned the hacker group LulzSec; also used the hashtag and made references that Burger King had been sold to McDonalds.
Several of the Tweets used obscenities or racial epithets, according to news reports from CBS and ABC. The account, which has been suspended, also tweeted, "if I catch you at a wendys, we're fightin!"
Burger King Worldwide and Twitter did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
Earlier this month, Twitter reported 250,000 account passwords had been compromised by hackers.
