The new Moto X will be available on all four top wireless carriers, but some companies appear more enthusiastic about the smartphone than others.
Though Motorola said that Verizon, Sprint, ATT, and T-Mobile - as well as US Cellular - would offer the Moto X, a Motorola statement about its newest flagship smartphone said that only ATT, Sprint, US Cellular, and Verizon would offer it in stores, while "it will be available on all carriers, including T-Mobile, at Motorola.com."
In a statement, T-Mobile said "the Moto X is compatible with T-Mobile's network; however, we have no further announcements at this time." The carrier also told All Things D that it is "working closely with Motorola to make the Moto X a great experience for T-Mobile customers."
Hands On With Motorola's Moto X
During a meeting with reporters yesterday, Motorola said the 16GB version of the Moto X will be available for $199.99 with a two-year contract, with unlocked and developer versions coming at a later date. T-Mobile has done away with contracts, opting instead for an initial down payment - from $99 to $150 - plus 24 months of small payments.
For now, ATT has an exclusive on the Moto X's customization options, which include colors, engravings, and start-up greetings. Verizon tweeted that it will provide customization via the MotoMaker.com portal later this year, while Sprint focused on its unlimited talk, text, and chat guarantee with its announcement.
